CONNECTIONS: A Resource for Depressed Lawyers

Issue:
2008 March/April

Daniel Lukasik, an S&H reader and attorney in Buffalo, New York, writes:

“I have struggled with depression for some time. About a year ago, I wanted to help my fellow attorneys who struggle with this (studies estimate that one quarter of the 1 million attorneys in this country suffer from some form of clinical depression). I looked for a website for lawyers struggling with depression, and there wasn’t one. So I launched my own, a nonprofit with only one intention: to help others. The site goes beyond the psychological and psychiatric aspects of depression and takes a hard look at the spiritual dimension of coping with depression. My own spiritual perspective (which influences the site) is contemplative Christianity and Buddhism (and the value of mindfulness). For more information, go to www.lawyerswithdepression.com .”
