CONNECTIONS: Moving Quotes
Issue:
2008 July/Aug
Whether you’re a quotations junkie who keeps notebooks of profound blurbs, or a “happenings” aficionado who loves spontaneous art, or a person who enjoys conversations with strangers, there is something for you in Mike Garibaldi Frick’s traveling public art project, Dialogue. From July through December (and maybe beyond), Frick’s nine 7x8-foot freestanding screens and several life-cast statues covered with thousands of inspiring quotations will be on view in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Washington, Idaho, Washington, D.C., New York, Illinois, Florida, and South Dakota.
Some of the themes addressed include character, community, creativity, life, love, strength, success, and wisdom, and the project seems to inspire a lot of contemplation and conversation. Maybe it’s because it offers much more than an invitation to look; viewers are also invited to write their own insights in a book for others to read. Selected quotations have been published in the third edition of the Dialogue Project book and will be added to the screens as the project tours so viewers can read what people in previous cities have written. Awesome Public Art Project
I saw this Dialogue Project in Union Square in San Francisco. It's really subtle and amazing. Hope everyone gets to see it in person :-)
