BOOK REVIEW - A Blessing in Disguise: 39 Life Lessons from Today’s Greatest Teachers

Submitted by Allison on Sat, 07/05/2008 - 11:02pm.
By Andrea Joy Cohen, M.D., with a foreword by Thich Nhat Hanh
Berkley Books, 2008, $14.00

Renowned authors and teachers, including Dean Ornish, Joan Borysenko, Rachel Naomi Remen, and other respected self-help, spiritual, and health teachers, share their personal trials intimately and honestly in this book, reminding us that no one is immune to life’s challenges. Their stories of personal fear, loss, and vulnerability bring hope that in our darkest, most frightening hours we may find our greatest gifts.
Author Andrea Joy Cohen is a physician, cancer researcher, international speaker, writer, and poet. She currently serves as associate professor in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and is founder of its Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Program in Cancer. She also is a visionary deeply involved in personal transformation, and in this collection she offers a glimpse into the fears and struggles of some of our best-loved teachers.
